Ronnie Ekelund (born August 21, 1972 in Glostrup, Denmark) is a Danish soccer player, who last played for the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer.
Ekelund started his pro career with Danish club Brondby in 1989 at the age of 15, becoming the youngest player ever to appear in the Danish first division. He impressed for Denmark in the 1992 Summer Olympics and was soon off to Spanish giants FC Barcelona, and was a regular for the club in 1993-94 season. Ekelund then went to England, to Premiership clubs Southampton, Manchester City, and Coventry City, but injuries really limited his playing time there. He went back to Denmark in 1996, to Odense , and had stints with French club Toulouse and English team Walsall.
In 2001, Ekelund trasferred to MLS's Earthquakes, and has been everpresent in the lineup since. In four seasons with San Jose, he has scored 11 goals (five of them on precisely taken penalty kicks) and 16 assists (plus a goal and four assists in the playoffs), while helping the team to MLS Cup titles in 2001 and 2003. Ekelund was named to the MLS Best XI in 2002. He left the team after the 2004 MLS season, having totalled ten goals and 16 assists in league play.
