Roy Focker (Fokker)
Roy Focker was a strong-willed fighter pilot in Macross, known for his love of women and alcohol. In Robotech, Roy (with the adapted surname Fokker) was engaged to SDF-1 second officer Claudia Grant. Roy died in episode 18 (Pineapple Salad or Robotech's Farewell, Big Brother), from wounds sustained while defending the SDF-1 Macross from Milia Fallyna 's force of Queadluun-Rau battle suits (Miriya Parino 's Quadrono Battalion in Robotech).
In Macross, Focker was one of the first test pilots for the development of the variable fighter by the U.N. Forces. In 2008 he was deployed with the Skull Team aboard the stealth carrier Asuka II (CVN-99) to the South Pacific and flew the VF-1 Valkyrie's immediate predecessor, the VF-0, in battle against SV-51s of the Anti-U.N.forces. The research work done on the VF-0 eventually led to the development of the VF-1 Valkyrie. In Macross, Focker was not exactly portrayed as a fatherly character; Of course, he was Hikaru Ichijyo 's sempai (a big brother-like character), but his portrayal showed a pilot that fitted our knowledge of World War 1 fighter pilots more than the watered-down version we saw in Robotech: a smoking, drinking womanizer, a man who constantly defied death and, when not on another desperate mission, enjoyed life and its pleasures to the fullest; this imagery, however, was considered "improper" by Carl Macek, so Roy was heavily edited (Macross fans would be inclined to say "butchered"). Claudia LaSalle was his girlfriend in Macross.[[http://macross.anime.net/characters/f/index.html#FockerRoy The entry for Roy Focker in the Macross Compendium]]
