Rudaki
Rudaki (859-c.941) was a Persian poet, who was the first important poet to compose poems in the "New Persian" language, written in the Perso-Arabic alphabet. He was the court poet to the Samanid ruler Nasr II (914-943) in Bukhara, but he fell out of favour and ended his life in poverty.
