Among his numerous awards, Boesch earned the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action during more than 45 combat operations. During and after his stint in Vietnam, Boesch was designated the "Chief SEAL," and set physical and operational standards at SEAL Team TWO . He attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer and was honorably discharged on August 1, 1990.
