Rush
Rush may refer to any of the following:
- In general it implies something that happens hurriedly or hastily, or an activity entailing unusually rapid flow of people or things at quantity (see Wiktionary: Rush).
- Also called an adrenaline rush, it is an energetic and slighly euphoric feeling that occurs when something scary or dangerous happens. Recreational drugs can bring on or intensify this kind of rush.
- In poker, a winning streak. Usually such a streak is characterized by a sequence of unusually lucky cards.
- In American football, rushing describes two different actions. See rush (football).
- the Chicago Rush is an Arena Football League team.
- In botany it is a semiaquatic grass-like plant of the family Juncaceae.
- In fraternities and sororities it is a regulated period of new member recruitment. Sometimes the regulated period is termed formal rush and the general term extended to the overall process or concept of new member recruitment.
- In music, it means to play faster than the indicated tempo. Rushing is usually accidental and undesirable.
- In real-time strategy computer games, a rush is a fast attack at the beginning of a game.
- Rush is the title of two movies, both about drugs:
- US 1991, director Lili Fini Zanuck , with Jason Patric, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gregg Allman (crime genre, some music by Eric Clapton)
- Italy 1983, director Anthony Richmond , with Conrad Nichols , Laura Trotter , Gordon Mitchell (Science Fiction)
- In popular culture, it is the name of a musical band: see Rush (band), and their self-titled album, Rush.
- There's a song called "Rush" by Big Audio Dynamite II, which is a side project of the regular Big Audio Dynamite from their first album The Globe .
- Rush is a robotic dog in the Mega Man series.
- It is the nickname of Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois.
