S-Train

The S-Train (S-tog) network is the commuter train network of Copenhagen, Denmark. The first line was built in 1934. Today it forms the heart of the public transportation infrastructure in the city.

In the city center the trains run below grade. Outside they often run above grade, on embankements. The lines are well integrated with the rails serving the regular service of international and intercity trains.

It is complemented by a metro and bus network. Although the train is run by DSB, the Danish national train company, and the bus network is run by the Greater Copenhagen Authority , the system uses interchangeable tickets.

It is composed of 12 separate lines, although many of these lines are simply variations of each other with only minor differences.
