Safi, Morocco
Asfi (french Safi) is a city located in western Morocco, by the Atlantic Ocean. As of 1987 the city agglomeration has an estimated 793,000 inhabitants. The city is the main fishing port in the country (sardine fishery). The city exports phosphorites and has chemical facilities, textile industry facilities and craftsmanship facilities (mainly ceramics).
Although the Roman empire included much of northwestern Morocco (AD 117) it is unclear whether this included the lands and/or surrounding territories of Safi. See image posted at History of Morocco.
