Samhain (band)

Samhain was a band formed by Glenn Danzig after his departure from The Misfits. He originally planned it as a side project, but when the Misfits broke up in 1983, it became his full-time band.

Samhain was much darker than the Misfits, and closer to goth metal than horror punk. Danzig often wore blood on his chest as a gimmick during this phase.

They released two full-lengths and one EP during their career. Their early work was criticized for being merely "the Misfits slowed down." The fact that Samhain re-recorded a few old Misfits songs cemented the idea in people's minds that Danzig couldn't move past his work with the Misfits. However, by the end of their career, they had evolved into their own style of lo-fi goth metal.

In 1987, Samhain was signed by American Recordings and changed their name to Danzig. Aside from lead singer Glenn Danzig, no members of Samhain are in Danzig currently.

Final Descent, a CD of previously unreleased demo recordings, was released after the band's demise to expose fans of Danzig to Samhain.

The band briefly reunited in 2000 to celebrate the release of the Box Set. They went on one tour with Danzig.
