Santarém, Portugal
Santarém is a city in the south-central part of Portugal by the river Tagus, located in the Lisboa e Vale do Tejo region and capital of the same-named district (distrito). Under the Romans it was the head town of a conventus, and its name was Scalabis.
Geographical location 39.24 ° North, 8.69° West. Population (2004) 27,900. The district covers an area of 7,689 km² and has a population of 441,100 (1992).
