Sarah Caldwell

Sarah Caldwell was born March 6,1924 in Maryville, Missouri.
She than moved and grew up in Arkansas. When she was only ten years old when she was all ready playing the violin in public shows.
Caldwell graduated from high school when she was just 14 years old.
In 1944 she went to the university. She also went to a school of music. She studied opera, conducting, and violin. She also taught at a music center from the year 1948 to 1952.
In 1976, Caldwell became the first woman to conduct an opera
in New York City. She was known to perform hard works and putting together different kinds of very interesting operas.
Sarah Caldwell is still best known as an American opera director and
conductor up to this day.
