Sauer

Sauer (German and Luxembourgish; in French: Sūre) is a river of Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. It is a tributary to the river Moselle. Its total length is 173 km.

The source of the Sauer is in the Ardennes in south-eastern Belgium, near Vaux-sur-Sūre. It flows eastwards and crosses the border with Luxembourg near Martelange. It flows into the artificial lake Lac de la Haute Sūre west of Esch-sur-Sūre . After Ettelbrück and Diekirch it reaches the German border. It forms the border between Luxembourg and Germany for the last 50 km of its course, a.o. along Echternach. The Sauer flows into the Moselle in Wasserbillig. Tributaries are the Wiltz , Alzette, Our and Prüm .
