Scanner
The term scanner has several meanings:
- In radio, a scanner is a device for searching for and receiving radio broadcasts.
- An image scanner is a general-purpose device which digitises a two-dimensional image.
- A barcode scanner reads the data encoded in a barcode.
- The term "scanner" is also used in medical imaging.
- In computer security, a vulnerability scanner is a computer program to probe a remote system, typically to discover vulnerabilities.
- In computer science a scanner denotes a part in the frontend of compilers to do the lexical analysis.
- In stage lighting, a scanner is a spotlight which can move its beam with help of a mirror. See also moving light.
- In photolithography, a scanner is also called a stepper , and is a device used to sequentially expose a semiconducting silicon wafer to an integrated circuit design pattern projected through a reticle.
