Scorewriter
A scorewriter, or musical notation program, is software used to automate the task of writing and engraving sheet music. A scorewriter is to sheet music what a word processor is to written text.
By far the two most popular scorewriters are:

- Sibelius Student (cut-down version of Sibelius); Sibelius 7 Student, Sibelius 6, Junior Sibelius (cut-down versions of Sibelius for Acorn)
- Allegro, PrintMusic, Notepad, Notepad Plus (cut-down versions of Finale)
- SCORE (once a leading program)
- Encore (once a leading program)
- Numerous more specialized programs for writing guitar tab
A few scorewriters (principally Sibelius) also allow users to publish scores on the Internet. As a result, these can be used for electronic distribution of sheet music.
