Second line
Second line is a traditional dance style that developed in New Orleans, Louisiana in the mid 1800s. By that time, the "Jazz funeral " had become popular, and a new tradition of parading through the streets with a full party following the coffin and grieving family began. The trailing party would often dance to the music the funeral marchers were playing. The first line was the brass band and mourners, the second line was the party crowd.
Now, the term second line is actually considered a verb as well as a descriptive noun. This is still a popular funeral arrangement for many people in the New Orleans area.
