Sergei Bodrov Jr.


Sergei Bodrov Jr. (December 27, 1971 - September 19, 2002) was a popular Russian movie star who starred in several successful movies, including two nominated for Academy Awards. The son of Russian film director Sergei Bodrov, he was killed at the age of 30 in a glacial avalanche while filming in the Caucasus Mountains.

Though not the most versatile actor, Bodrov Jr.'s direct appeal struck a chord with the nation.

His career began as a television talk show host in the early 1990s. His breakthrough role was as the lead in "Prisoner of the Caucasus " (1996, Sergei Bodrov), nominated for an Academy Award and released in 1997 in the United States as "Prisoner of the Mountains".

He was propelled to stardom in the action films "Brother" (1997) and "Brother 2", which tapped themes of loyalty and revenge in post-Soviet Russia.

His second turn in an Academy Award-nominated film was "East-West" (2000, Regis Wargnier ).

He hosted the Russian version of "Survivor" before commencing work on his next film in the mountains near Karmadon, Russia . He was killed by the avalanche of one-third of the Maili glacier just after the second day of shooting.
