Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet

Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet was a Canadian instrumental surf rock band, formed in 1984. The band members were: Don Pyle on drums, Brian Connelly on guitar, and Reid Diamond on bass, who passed away in 2001. They released a string of EPs and singles throughout the 1980s, achieving some success, but remain perhaps best-known for the track "Having an Average Weekend", which was used as the theme song to The Kids in the Hall.

Their first LP was 1988's Savvy Show Stoppers , a compilation of late 1980s 7" EP projects including Love Without Words (1985), Wow•Flutter•Hiss '86 (1986), Schlagers! (1987), Live Record with Extra Bread And Cheese (1987), and Explosion of Taste (1988). Recordings that followed include: Dim The Lights, Chill The Ham (1991), and (1993). The group also appeared on many compilation albums. The band won a 1992 Juno Award (the Canadian version of the United States' Grammy Award) from the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for "Instrumental Artist of The Year". The group disbanded in 1996, though participated in each others' later side projects.
