Shamrock Rovers F.C.
Shamrock Rovers F.C. is a Irish football club playing in the Football League of Ireland. The club, founded in 1901, hails originally from Dublin inner suburb of Ringsend. From the early 1920s until 1987, they played at Glenmalure Park Milltown, becoming Ireland's most successful club - Shamrock Rovers have won more cups and leagues than any other Irish club. However, the club has not won a major trophy since 1994. In 1987, the club's home ground was sold by the then owners, the Kilcoyne family. It was afterwards demolished and developed for housing. The club's supporters waged a long and acrimonious but ultimately futile campaign to save the ground, including boycotting homes games and ultimately forcing out the Kilcoynes as club owners. The club has been homeless from that time until the present. Their most stable period was while playing at the Royal Dublin Society's grounds in Ballsbridge, 1990-1996, when they won a league trophy and attracted reasonable crowds. However, since then, the club have been trying to develop a stadium in Tallaght and have played their home matches at several venues all over the city. The Tallaght Stadium project has run into severe planning and funding difficulties and it is unclear if the team will play there in the immediate future. In the meantime, the club's stature and support has dwindled into a pale shadow of what it once was. Shamrock Rovers started the 2005 season playing in Dalymount Park.
Club colours are Green and White the same as Glasgow Celtic, and the club goes by the nicknames The Hoops and Rovers. The current manager is Roddy Collins .
