Shark net
A shark net is a submerged net placed at popular sites for swimming, intended to keep sharks away so they do not attack swimmers.
However, there has been discussion as to the overall effectiveness of using such a method - shark nets can also harm non-predatory species such as dugongs or whales (see external link below), in proportion to the amount of lives that the nets save, as opposed to concentrating efforts into other areas such as education on shark behaviour, or into surf lifesaving which is thought to be more effective in saving lives. Other methods of shark control are also proposed or used then, for example, using drum lines (submerged, baited hooks to target only large sharks).
