Shettleston
Shettleston is a suburb in the east end of Glasgow in Scotland. Like many of the city's suburbs, Shettleston was originally a small village on its outer periphery. However, Glasgow's exponential growth during the Industrial Revolution meant that Shettleston was engulfed by the growing metropolis.
Today Shettleston lies between the neighbouring suburbs of Parkhead to the west, and Baillieston to the east, and is approximately 2 and a half miles from the city centre. It incorporates the sub-districts of Greenfield and Sandyhills. Famous natives of the area include Cliff Hanley , the lyricist of Scotland's anthem "Scotland The Brave", and the world reknowned plastic surgeon Dr. Ian Jackson.
Shettleston is the only place in the United Kingdom where life expectancy is falling[1]. The reason for the decline is poor diet.
Frank McAveety is the MSP for Shettleston.
John Wheatley College is a community college based in Shettleston.
