Shigeru Kayano
Shigeru Kayano (萱野茂, born 15 June 1923 or 1926) is a leading figure in the Ainu ethnic movement in Japan. He is an acknowledged living master of the Ainu oral tradition, an expert in its folk arts and language, as well as the first Ainu politician to sit in the Japanese Diet (upper house, SDP) from 1994 to 1998. He is perhaps the best known Ainu person in Japan and overseas.
