Shikhandi
Shikandi is a character in the Hindu text, the Mahabharata. He fought in the Kurukshetra war on the side of the Pandavas. He was the son of Drupada. He had first been born as Amba, a woman, who was rejected by Bhishma for marriage. Amba carried out great prayers and penance, and became half-man and half-woman, for the purpose of gaining revenge on Bhishma. In the battle of Kurukshetra, Bhishma recognised him as Amba, and dropped his weapons, not wanting to fight a woman. Only this gave a chance for Arjuna to deal a death blow to Bhishma, who was invincible until then.
