Plot

Ben Jahrvi has moved to New York City, and is trying to sell miniature "Johnny 5" robots as toys, with help from con man Fred Ritter. When his line is picked up by Sandy Banatoni, a floundering toy hunter in need of something new to show her boss, the real Johnny 5 arrives to help in their rapid manufacture. However, when a group of bank robbers led by Oscar Baldwin befriend Johnny, he is quick to help them dig a tunnel, on the other end of which lies a priceless diamond. Meanwhile, Ben and Fred have been locked in a Chinese restaurant's freezer, and must rely on Sandy to find them through hints they are able to send her in the form of music played to her answering machine. Once the thieves are done with Johnny, they beat him up and leave him for dead. But with Jahrvi and Ritter free, they are able to go in search of Johnny, who they discover is leaking battery fluid. When Fred finds him, Johnny is repaired, and seeks out the robbers to get his revenge.

Cast

  • Fisher Stevens as Ben Jahrvi

  • Michael McKean as Fred Ritter
  • Cynthia Gibb as Sandy Banatoni

Trivia

  • Ben Jabituya became Ben Jahrvi because his original Short Circuit name was intended as a joke. When the sequel had to be centered around Ben, it was decided that he would need a more realistic name.
