SIC

(Redirected from Sic)

SIC may mean one of the following:

  • [sic] or (sic) (from Latin sicut for "just as"; see also List of Latin phrases) is a bracketed expression used to indicate that an unusual spelling, phrase, or any other preceding quoted material is intended to be read or printed exactly as shown (rather than being an error) and should not be corrected. It carries two possible meanings: either that an error was made by the person from which one is quoting, but it would be dishonest to correct it, or that it appears to be an error, but is in fact correct. For example, when quoting a person named Sandra Bollock (not the actress Sandra Bullock), the author might write "a local resident, Sandra Bollock [sic] said that . . .". Many people think that "sic" stands for "spelled incorrectly"; this is actually a misconception, although "sic" is often used to point out an unusual or incorrect spelling.
  • When found in a French document, (sic) stands for "Sans Intention Comique" (without comic intention) meaning that even if the preceding text could be understood as funny, it was not meant to be (analogous to "no pun intended" in English).
  • SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) was, from the 1930s until 1997, a United States government system for classifying industries. SIC codes are still prevalent in many private and public sector economic and business databases; but they have been officially replaced by the more service-sector oriented NAICS system.
  • SIC (Sociedade Independente de Comunicação, or 'Independent Society for Communication') is Portugal's third television channel.
  • SIC (Sekolah Indonesia Cairo) or Indonesian School In Cairo. link official website this school is located in 63 Mosaddak st. Dokki, Cairo, Egypt. This school also functioned as the Indonesian culture center in Egypt beside The Indonesian Embassy. One can learn/have a course in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language) here.
