The Sith Empire was a fictional empire in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, established by Dark Jedi banished from the Republic. They were seen as gods by the native Sith and made themselves their rulers.

The Sith Empire was far smaller than the Republic, but much wealthier, and in possession of bizarre, potent technology. The Dark Lords who ruled it also practiced dark Sith alchemy to augment their already formidible powers.

Much later, hyperspace navigators Gav and Jori Daragon stumbled upon the Sith Empire and the descendents of the former Jedi rediscovered the existence of the Republic and decided to conquer it. Thus, the Great Hyperspace War began. However, after an assault on Coruscant, the Sith were defeated. For over a millennium it was believed that the Sith Empire had been destroyed shortly afterward, due to both infighting among the Sith Lords and attacks on the empire by the Republic, but during the Mandalorian Wars it was rediscovered by the fallen Jedi Revan and Malak in the Unknown Regions, patiently waiting for its chance to return to power.

Though Revan and Malak founded a new Sith Empire, its splendor paled in comparison to that of the original, and it was only the rise of Palpatine almost four millennia later that finally heralded the Revenge of the Sith and the return of a Sith-led Empire (Galactic Empire).
