Skyteam Alliance
SkyTeam Alliance is the global airline alliance partnering Aeroméxico, Air France-KLM, Alitalia, Continental Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Korean Air and Northwest Airlines. Aeroméxico, Air France, Alitalia, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Korean Air are the founding members, having started the alliance in 1996.
KLM, Northwest and Continental's simultaneous entry into SkyTeam in September, 2004, has been the largest expansion event in airline alliance history. The Madrid-based Air Europa was scheduled to join in November 2004, but, as of April 2005, remains outside of the alliance. Aeroflot and SkyTeam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on May 24, 2004 paving the way for the Russian carrier's entry into the alliance in 2005. China Southern Airlines did the same on August 28, 2004.
Current member CSA pledged to help Malév Hungarian Airlines become associate member of the alliance (as opposed to a full member, an associate has no voting rights). Tarom (The Romanian Airline) is rumoured to be preparing to join the alliance in 2005. Another carrier said to be in negotiations with SkyTeam is Malaysia Airlines. KLM's entry is expected to eventually get Kenya Airways into SkyTeam as well.
