Slocket
In computer hardware terminology, slockets (short for slot to socket adapter) are adapters that allow socket based microprocessors to be used on slot based motherboards. They were popular for inserting Socket 370 Intel Celerons into Slot 1 based motherboards to build computers at a lower cost, especially with dual processor machines. They were also popular in the transition period from Slot to Socket based Pentium III processors by allowing people to keep their old motherboards but use newer processors. Slockets are used to help upgrade motherboards with an old processor into motherboards with a new processor. This is done by exchanging slocket cards with another card and putting a different socket processor onto the slocket. Preferablly a more recent one. This has been done to upgrade Pentium IIs to the Pentium Celeron.
