Société de transport de Montréal

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is the agency that operates bus and subway (metro) in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

STM was created 2002 and replaced STCUM and transit systems of 27 cities that formed Greater Montreal.

Streetcars

Like many Canadian cities in the 19th and early 20th Century had streetcar (tram) service. With the popularity of buses, Montreal abandoned the streetcars by 1959.

Metro

Montreal is one of two cities in Canada with a subway system, the others have the smaller light rail system.

The subway or 'Metro', was introduced in 1966 in preparation for Canada's 100th birthday and Expo '67 in Montreal. Montreal is one a few cities not to use traditional railcars, rather the Metro uses rubber tire vehicles:
