Sociolismo
Sociolismo is the informal name many Cubans give to the system under which they live. A pun on socialism and socio (buddy), it refers to the use of friends and associates to get around the government bureaucracy. Socios can be black market operators who "facilitate" (steal) goods that are officially reserved for state workers. They can also get someone a job or obtain paperwork. The identification and use of socios is an essential skill for most Cubans due to the degree of control the government exercises in certain aspects of their lives.
