Somerfield (formerly known as Gateway until 1994, when they changed name to Somefield) is a chain of around six hundred supermarkets in the United Kingdom. It recently acquired 114 Safeway Compact stores from Morrisons. It also owns Kwik Save which also has around six hundred stores. It recently took over half of former Kwik Save stores in Scotland due to Kwik Save's withdrawal from the Scottish Market. Somerfield focuses on small to medium sized stores on high streets and local shopping centres. It recently changed its logo from a rectangular one to a more rounded one and has made a large number of store refurblishments. It has further changed its brand image by introducing newer own-brand lines such as "So Good", "Good intentions", and a more recent one, "Somerfield - Somerthing Different"
