Something In The Way
"Something In The Way" is an album track by early 90's grunge band Nirvana. Like Polly, another song on Nevermind, the song was recorded with a cheap acoustic five-string guitar with the original strings were still on it. According to Butch Vig, the guitar had never been tuned. Kurt had originally wanted to cut the song as a full band. But it didn't work, so the guitar and lead vocal was done first. After figuring out how to tune the bass to the guitar, that was overdubbed. Dave Grohl added drums, and on the final day of sessions, their friend Kirk Canning came in and added the dramatic cello line that completed the song. This song was also considered to be taken for release as a single, but was rejected in favor of Drain You, then Lithium.
