Source
The word source has more than one meaning:
- in nature: the Water-source, see well
- the point of origin of a river; usually at a spring
- in acoustics: the sound source , mostly as noise, but also as useful music of an orchestra.
- an area of positive divergence, or more generally, including a negative source or sink, an area of non-zero divergence
- Source code for software, see also Open source
- Supply-source for parts, see Primary source, Secondary source
- one of the terminals of a field-effect transistor (the others are the gate and drain terminals)
- A news source
- An informant
- A literature reference , such as one referred to by citation
- A communication source
- The Source engine: the name of the proprietary game engine developed by Valve Software for Half-Life 2
- A SCSI endpoint
- Source Edit: A software program for developers in which you can edit your source code regardless of the computer language.
- Short name used by PC gamers for the version of Counter-Strike utilizing the Source engine, a packaged part of the the computer game, Half-Life 2.
