South Africa at the 2004 Summer Olympics is represented by the National Olympic Committee of South Africa (NOCSA), and is abbreviated as RSA. 106 athletes from South Africa are competing in 19 sporting codes.

Since South Africa's return to the Olympic Games in 1992 after a four-decades long absence resulting from a ban imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the country's Apartheid policies, it has seen mixed success; achieving three Gold medals, a Silver and a Bronze at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta but only managing two Silver medals and three Bronze medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

Mbulaeni Mulaudzi was South Africa's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony.
