Southern College of Optometry
The Southern College of Optometry is a private college located in Memphis, Tennessee dedicated to the study of optometry, the field of medicine dedicated to the performance of refractive eye examinations and the fitting of necessary spectacles and contact lenses for vision correction. It was founded in 1932.
Over the years there have been attempts to merge Southern College with a public institution in Memphis, either the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences or the University of Memphis, but these efforts have never been successful.
One of Southern College of Optometry's most famous alumni is undoubtedly Dr. Gil Morgan , who is better known from golf's PGA TOUR, where he was a regular for many years, than he is as an optometrist. Dr. Morgan now often competes on the PGA Champions Tour.
