Southern Europe
Southern Europe is a region of Europe. It is also known as Mediterranean Europe, after the bordering sea, the Mediterranean Sea.
It has no precise definition but is generally taken to consist of:
- The Iberian peninsula
- France
- The Italian peninsula
- The Balkans (its coastal countries)
- Albania
- Serbia and Montenegro
- Croatia
- Greece
- the European part of Turkey
- Mediterranean States
Cyprus is not geographically a part of Europe but is frequently called a European country in a political and cultural sense. The same is true for Turkey, although to a lesser extent, but the Turkish often consider themselves Europeans.
