Southern Professional Hockey League

The Southern Professional Hockey League, or SPHL, is scheduled to begin for the 2004-2005 season. It was created from the teams of the World Hockey Association 2 and the South East Hockey League, after the World Hockey Association ordered league founder David Waronker a cease-and-desist suit.

8 teams are slated to play in the first season

  • Florida Seals (Suspended for 04/05 season: Lease terminated by City of Orlando.)(WHA2)
  • Alabama Slammers (city refused to renew tenant to arena)(WHA2)
  • Lakeland Loggerheads (WHA2)
  • Miami Manatees (lost home arena, folded)(WHA2)
