Southport, Queensland

Southport is a suburb of the Gold Coast, Australia. In current times, it is set apart from the normal tourist hub of the Gold Coast, and is more of a residential and business district. In the past, Southport was the central entertainment location of the Gold Coast. The construction of the Jubilee Bridge in 1926, between Southport and Main Beach replaced the Meyer's Ferry connection which had traditionally ferried passengers to the surf beaches at Main Beach. The name of Ferry Road is a reminder of those past days. The CBD area of Southport is located at the junction of Nerang Road and Scarborough Street.

Southport is home to The Southport School, which was once the largest boarding school in Queensland. The Music School buildings were once used by the Pacific Cable Station and were relocated to the School. The School also has a well-known clocktower and chapel. It is also one of the few schools in Australia where cadet service is mandatory.
