Spiral Galaxy M77
The Spiral Galaxy M77 (also known as Messier Object 77, Messier 77, M77, or NGC 1068) is a spiral galaxy in the Cetus constellation. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1780. M77 is about 60 million light years distant from Earth. The galaxy hosts an Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN), which is obscured from view by astronomical dust at visible wavelengths. The diameter of the hot dust around the nucleus has been measured in the mid-infrared by the MIDI instrument at the VLTI.
