Benedict, from the Latin for blessed, is the name of many notable people. The most prominent today is Pope Benedict XVI, the current Roman pontiff. In history the most prominent is Saint Benedict of Nursia, founder of western monasticism, and the Benedictine Order. Other saints by this name include:
