Stilgar

Stilgar is a fictional character featured in Frank Herbert's Dune universe. He is a key character in the science fiction novels Dune, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.

Stilgar Ben Fifrawi was born in 10141 in Umbu Sietch as Tuan. It was not until 10153 after a successful raid against a Harkonnen village that he acquired the name of Stilgar. Among the members of Umbu Sietch, he was known as Sahkan or the Desert Hawk.

In 10175 Stilgar called out Forad the Naib of Sietch Tabr and defeated him, becoming the new Naib of Tabr, a title he would hold until his death in 10228.

The character Stilgar becomes the leader of Fremen after Liet-Kynes is killed. He meets Paul Atreides (Muad'Dib) in the first novel Dune where he spares Paul's life as he is supposed to be a messiah according to a prophecy. By the end of Dune he is in awe of Paul considers him to be his emperor like the other Fremen. In the second (Dune Messiah) and third (Children of Dune) novel he is a staunch helper/supporter of Paul and Paul's children, Leto II and Ghanima, respectively.
