Stroszek is a 1977 film by German director Werner Herzog.
Plot summary
Bruno Stroszek (Bruno S.) is a Berlin street singer. Released from prison and warned to stop drinking, he quickly goes to a bar where he befriends Eva (Eva Mattes ), a prostitute down on her luck which he lets stay with him. After they are harried and beaten by the thugs who have been Eva's pimps, they decide to leave Germany and accompany Bruno's eccentric elderly neighbour Scheitz (Clemens Scheitz ), who was going to get to is nephew settled in Wisconsin. In that winter bound, barren prairie, Bruno works as a mechanic, Eva as a waitress and Scheitz pursue his interest in animal magnetism. The pair buy a trailer. Then, bills mount, the bank threatens to repossess the trailer, Eva wants privacy, and inexorably, the promise of a new life deserts Bruno. Finally Eva runs away with two truck drivers while Bruno and Scheitz make a catastrophic hold-up attempt.
