Tórshavn
Tórshavn (Danish: Thorshavn) is the capital of the Faroe Islands, a territory of Denmark. The city is located on Streymoy island and has 18,000 inhabitants. The name of the city means Thor's Harbour, Thor refers to the god of thunder and lightning in Norse Mythology.
The Faroese parliament, the Løgting is located in the old Tinganes area of Tórshavn.
The city was founded in the 10th century CE, and was temporarily occupied during World War II by the British (1941-1945).
