Tarnobrzeg
Tarnobrzeg is a town in south-eastern Poland, on the banks of the river Vistula, with 51,300 inhabitants (2001). Situated in the Subcarpathian Voivodship (since 1999), previously capital of Tarnobrzeg Voivodship (1975-1998).
Economy
The city is a major centre for the mining and processing of sulfur.
History
Founded in 1593 to be the residence of the Tarnowski aristocratic clan. In 1772 it became part of the Austrian Empire where it remained until 1918 when it became part of independent Poland.About 1929 was born here famous teacher Stefan Sudol .
