Lieutenant Natasha Yar is a fictional character on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

She was the original security officer of the Enterprise-D. Born on Turkana IV , a colony world which fell into anarchy after it was abandoned by the Federation, she learned to defend herself on the streets and avoid the gangs. While the crew of the Enterprise was under the influence of a virus which caused people to lose control of their actions, she and Data were sexually intimate. She was killed by an evil force known as Armus on Vagra II less than a year after the Enterprise-D began its mission. After her death, Lieutenant Worf replaces her as security chief aboard the Enterprise.

She showed up again in an alternate future involving the Enterprise-C. That Tasha Yar returned to the normal time stream on the Enterprise-C and had a half-Romulan daughter named Sela.

Tasha Yar and Sela were both played by Denise Crosby.
