Teimuraz Bagrationi (April 23, 1782-October 25, 1846) was outstanding Georgian historian and philologist, one of the founders of scientific schools of Kartvelology and Rustvelology, Academician of the St.Petersburg Emperor Academy of Sciences (now Russian Academy of Sciences).

He was born in 1782, in Tbilisi. His father was the last King of Kartl-Kakheti (modern Eastern Georgia) Giorgi XII (1798-1800).

In 1831 Teimuraz Bagrationi was elected as Honorary Member of the Asiatic Society of Paris, in 1837 as Academician (Full Member) of the St.Petersburg Emperor Academy of Sciences, in 1838 as Member of the Antiquarian Society of Copenhagen. He was a first Georgian Academician.

Main fields of scientific activity of Teimuraz Bagrationi were: history of Georgia and the Caucasus, history of Georgian literature, Rustvelology (study of creative work of Shota Rustaveli). His main scientific works are: "History of Georgia" (1832), "History of ancient Colchis" (1840), "Explanations of the poem The Knight in the Panther's Skin" (1843). His articles were published in the "Journal Asiatique" (Paris) and "Memoires inedits" (Paris).

Pupils of Teimuraz Bagrationi were outstanding scientists: Academician Marie-Felitite Brosset (1802-1880), Professor Platon Ioseliani (1809-1875) and Professor David Chubinashvili (1814-1891).

Bagrationi died in 1846. He is buried in St.Petersburg.
