Televisión Española

Televisión Española (TVE) is the national state-owned public-service television broadcaster in Spain. TVE's activities are financed by a combination of advertising revenue and subsidies from the national government.

TVE belongs to the RTVE Group which has overall responsibility for national public-service radio and television under a government-appointed General Manager who, as well as being answerable to a Board of Directors, reports to an all-party committee of the national parliament, as provided for in the Public Radio and Television Statute of 1980.

Terrestrial (UHF) channels

TVE began broadcasting on 28 October 1956. A second channel was added in November 1966 and the two services are today known as TVE 1 - La Primera and TVE 2 - La Dos.

Satellite channels

Televisión Española also transmits a satellite service, TVE Internacional , in four different streams for Europe, Africa, Asia, and America.

Digital channels
  • TVE Canal 24 Horas : a 24-hour news channel which began broadcasting on 15 September 1997
  • TVE Canal Clásico : classical music
  • TVE Grandes Documentales - Hispavisión : documentaries
  • TVE Teledeporte : sports
  • TVE Nostalgia : archive material
