The Amazing Race 5

The Amazing Race 5 was the fifth installment of the popular reality television show, The Amazing Race.

In this edition of the race, several rule changes were introduced, including:

  • Yield - This was a new element in the game that allowed one team to force another team to stop racing for a predetermined amount of time.
  • Fast Forward decrease - This race had Fast Forwards (passes to skip directly to the next Pit Stop) on only two legs, as opposed to previous seasons, where they were available on all legs except the last.
  • Non-elimination penalty - Beginning this season, teams finishing last on non-elimination legs were penalized by being stripped of any money they had accumulated. In addition, they received no money at the start of the next leg. In previous seasons, there was no penalty for finishing last on non-elimination legs.

Filming began on January 30, 2004 and finished on February 27, 2004.
