The Awful Truth (TV show)
The Awful Truth (1999-2000) was the name of a satirical American television show which was directed, written, and hosted by Michael Moore. It aired on the Bravo network. The show emulated television newsmagazine shows by producing documentaries, but the format of the program diverged by presenting each documentary in front of a "live" audience. The Awful Truth focused on exposing supposed problems in American government, business, and society, while proposing often outlandish solutions to those problems.
Notable scenes included:
- A group clad in Colonial clothing show Kenneth Starr how to conduct an economical witch trial.
- Crackers, the corporate crime fighting chicken, travels to Disney World to confront Mickey Mouse about unfair labor practices;
- The Iowa Primaries Mosh Pit, in which Alan Keyes dove into a portable mosh pit and moshed to Rage Against the Machine to win the endorsement of The Awful Truth for Republican nominee for the 2000 presidential election;
- The Sodomobile, a pink van loaded with gay men, travels from state to state fighting for gay rights. Specifically attacking Pastor Fred Phelps over his picketing of the funerals of young gay men.
- An election special where a Ficus tree was run against the otherwise unopposed Republican incumbent for a seat in Congress.
