The Care Bears (television series)

The Care Bears was a Canadian-produced television series based on the best-selling toy line, the Care Bears. The prolific animation company, DiC Entertainment, produced the first 21 syndication-ready episodes from September 1985 on through 1986. Then, starting on 13 September 1986, Canadian animation giants Nelvana, who had made the first two movies in 1985 and early 1986, took over with a much more successful spin-off, The Care Bears Family Storybook, which ran on ABC's Saturday-morning line-up until 23 January 1988. The show continued hence through network and syndicated reruns until 1990, from which point Disney Channel picked it up for its morning schedule and ran it thus for the next few years until circa 1997. In April 1998, its sister station, Toon Disney, re-ran the Nelvana episodes up until 1 September 2002.

So far, the DiC-produced episodes have been already out on DVD, with the first three such collections from the Nelvana era having been recently released via Lions Gate Entertainment's FHE division.
