The Gaming Center
The Gaming Center (TGC) was a South Florida based BBS that was popular in the "gamer" scene.
The origional BBS started around 1995 and shut down somewhere around 1999. It had 40 dial-up nodes which support unlimited PPP internet access. 20 of those lines were for the 954 area code (Fort Lauderdale, FL area) and the other half reached to the 305 area code (Miami, FL area).
The BBS software used was Galacticomm's Major BBS/Worldgroup, which is probably the most expensive BBS software available on the market. It also had a Major BBS add-on called "Game Connection" which allowed it's users to play games such as Descent, Doom, and Quake, among other popular BBS door games such as Legend of the Red Dragon, Lunatix , TradeWars 2002, Major MUD BladeMaster , and Swords of Chaos.
Although the origional BBS went down some time ago, a reincarnation of the BBS was started by a user named "Palpatine". When Palpatine's former employer Valueweb, Inc purchased Galacticomm's old data center, found that Galacticomm had left a licensed copy of Worldgroup at the data center, he excersized his employee bennefits and obtained the licensed copy of the software, who is now Sysop.
Since the new BBS went live, users were flocking to it to much of our surprise and still exists on the internet today with regular users.
