The Scottish play
In the acting profession, The Scottish play is an euphemism used for Shakespeare's Macbeth to ward off the curse supposedly associated with it. Another name sometimes used for the same purpose is The Bard's play. Anyone using the actual name of the play is supposedly well-advised to use traditional rituals to ward off evil, such as spitting or turning three times.
